Curious Little Lizard, Andaman Islands, India, by Simon Christen
“I prefer winter and fall, when you feel the bone structure of the landscape - the loneliness of it, the dead feeling of winter. Something waits beneath it, the whole story doesn’t show.” - Andrew Wyeth

The Forest of Dean is a 110 square kilometre (42.5 sq mi) area of ancient woodland in western Gloucestershire, England, that is quite obviously magical. The Puzzlewood region inspired J.R.R.Tolkien’s Middle-earth in The Lord of the Rings Trilogy, J.K. Rowling’s Deathly Hallows contains a scene set in the Forest of Dean, which served as the Forbidden Forest in the first two films; and Doctor Who and Merlin episodes have been filmed here as well. There are, obviously, Ents, Giants, unicorns, werewolves, and Acromantulas lurking about but this merely adds to the ambiance.
